Cooking class schedule
Cookery classes are available twice a week on weekdays, generally on Tuesdays and Fridays. Other days might available with advance notice.
The cooking lessons are offered year round for a minimum of two people. Classes are small - 2 to 4 participants - so you will have personalized attention and one-on-one instruction. Lessons are given at a leisurely pace and focus on a few recipes at a time. All recipes can be reproduced with normal home equipment.
The class starts at 11:00 a.m. at our apartment in Appio Latino, Rome. After introductions and a glass of wine, we will wear aprons and start to prepare a 3-4 course meal from scratch. Rates are from 160€ per person for a minimum of 2 participants. Pls. inquire for availability of a discount.
After the class and meal, which ends generally between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m., you will have enough time for a leisurely visit of some of Rome's many attractions. Our apartment is conveniently located at a few minutes walk to a taxi station as well as Metro A (Ponte Lungo) and the Tuscolana railway station.
What will you cook
We generally begin the class making fresh pasta such as tonnarelli, stringozzi or fettuccini and their wonderful sauces. In the winter our first course might be a risotto or a vegetable soup. In the summer we might enjoy an eggplant parmigiana or panzanella, a delicious bread salad made with the sweetest summer tomatoes.
A main course, either vegetarian or with meat will follow and then dessert, for example panna cotta with seasonal fruit or - in winter or fall - olive oil and wine cookies.
I always try to accommodate special requests for those with dietary restrictions - e.g. vegetarians - or allergies. The quality of our cookery classes is reflected in a long list of press and online mentions as well as reviews written by enthusiastic guests from all over the world.
Italian cooking resources
Over the years I have published hundreds of tested recipes belonging to my family traditions as well as modern recipes and those derived by the traditions of different regions of Italy.
Most recipes, albeit not all, are suitable to the schedule of a cooking classes. Please visit my blog to find inspiration.
What to expect from your cooking experience in Rome
At the end of the class, you will enjoy your meal in our cozy dining room at the top floor of a quaint 1939 flat building. Besides the delicious food, the experience will give you a unique insight in the everyday life of the citizens of an authentic neighbourhood of the eternal city.
You will not encounter a single tourist trinket shop nor anyone dressed up like a gladiator. Instead we suggest to arrive early and stroll through the colorful Alberone open market (open morning, Mon to Sat). Take in the colors and variety of fresh vegetables and all sort of cheeses, bread and spices.
Then proceed to our home for your cooking classe. You will never feel more at home in Rome than after a day like this one.
